Ledger — Getting Started Hub

Everything you need to set up your Ledger hardware wallet, install Ledger Live, secure your recovery phrase and begin managing your crypto.

Quick Start

  1. Download Ledger Live (Desktop or Mobile) from the official site.
  2. Power on your Ledger device and choose Set up as new device or Restore device if you already have a recovery phrase.
  3. Follow device prompts to create a PIN and write down your recovery phrase — store it offline.
  4. Install apps for the cryptocurrencies you want to use via Ledger Live Manager.
  5. Add accounts in Ledger Live and start sending/receiving securely.

Downloads & Supported Devices

Ledger Live is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. Use the Ledger Live Manager to install coin-specific apps to devices including:

  • Ledger Nano S Plus
  • Ledger Nano X
  • Legacy: Ledger Nano S (limited storage)

Always verify you are on ledger.com before downloading. Avoid third‑party installers and unsolicited links.

Set Up & Restore

During setup your device will generate a recovery phrase — typically 24 words. These words are the backup of your private keys. Follow these precautions:

  • Write the words on the provided recovery sheet — do not store them digitally.
  • Do not share your recovery phrase. Ledger Support will never ask for it.
  • If restoring, select Restore device and enter the words in order when prompted.

Using Ledger Live

Ledger Live is the official interface for managing your crypto: view portfolio, add accounts, send and receive, stake supported assets, and access third‑party apps. Key tips:

  • Verify every receive address on your device before sharing.
  • Confirm transaction details on the hardware device when sending.
  • Use the Manager to install and remove coin apps — removing an app does not delete funds.

Security Recommendations

  • Never enter your recovery phrase into a computer, phone, or website.
  • Keep your recovery phrase offline and consider metal backup solutions for durability.
  • Enable a strong PIN and consider a passphrase (advanced users) for additional protection.
  • Be cautious of phishing: check domain names, bookmarks, and use official support channels.

Common Tasks

Adding an Account

Open Ledger Live → Accounts → Add account → Choose cryptocurrency → Follow prompts with device connected.

Sending Crypto

Accounts → Select account → Send → Enter recipient address/amount → Confirm on device.

Receiving Crypto

Select account → Receive → Verify address on device → Share address.

Troubleshooting

  • If your device isn’t detected, try a different USB cable/port and ensure it’s a data cable.
  • For Bluetooth pairing issues with Nano X, unpair in OS settings and re-pair from Ledger Live.
  • If balances look incorrect, perform an account resync in account settings or update Ledger Live.
